I clamped each one to the underside of open floor joists. The clamps were spaced about seven feet apart. I connected one kayak sling to each clamp and placed my ultralight (12'/19lb) canoe into the slings and raised it as far as possible. This system allows for infinite adjustment without having to drill holes into the joists. The only thing that could have made this product better for my purpose is if the hole on the side was tapped for 3/8" like the hole at the end instead of 1/4".
